You need a broker first. I would recomend Ameritrade or Etrade. I don't know if they take Canadians so you need to check out their websites.

With an online broker, you can buy one share if you'd like.

no minimum unless your brokerage has minimum requirement. In america, lowtrades is the cheapest? In canada i think they have ameritrade and td waterhouse(they are merging soon).

Take a look at sharebuilder as well. Not for everyone, but worse things to do with your money than to steadily invest it and watch it grow.

If you take specific stock advice from anyone on this forum you are going to lose money. Buy a decent fund and add the same amount to it every month.

Unless you do plenty of homework you are going to lose money buying individual stocks. If you aren't prepared to do the work (research) paying for GOOD advice is the way to go.
